How many coats of paint should I use?

For the best results, we recommend 1 coat of Farrow & Ball’s Primer & Undercoat and 2 coats of your chosen paint color.

Do I have to use the Farrow & Ball primer?

We recommend using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat whenever using Farrow & Ball paint for several reasons:

Richer Color Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat is available in four different tones: White & Light Tones, Mid Tones, Dark Tones, and Red & Warm Tones. Each tone is tinted to ensure you get the very best color while also adding richness and depth to give you that signature Farrow & Ball look.

Coverage – Because Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoats are made with the same pigments, and same water base as their paints, they help the color you chose adhere to the surface you are painting, giving you a smooth, even finish.

Durability – By using a Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat, it gives you a longer-lasting finish than paint alone. This means your paint will hold up longer on the surface you are painting it to, as well as protecting your color from fading.

How long does it take the paint to dry between each coat?

Each coat of paint typically dries in two hours, but for the best results allow your paint to dry a minimum of 4 hours in-between each coat.

Are Farrow & Ball paints safe?

Yes! Farrow & Ball is a non toxic, 100% water based paint. The water based formula that Farrow & Ball uses is safe for both your home and the environment; this is because the formula contains low levels of VOC’s (volatile organic compounds).

Can I buy archived colors?

Yes, archive colors are available to purchase in a gallon or 750ML. Farrow & Ball also offers an Archive Color Fan. Unfortunately, archive colors are not available in sample pots.
